Spring has finahhhhhly arrived. The blasted winter only took forever and a day to pack its bags and leave, but a hallelujah chorus has been sung around here lately. I feel like once those sinus cold bugs entered our ventilation system, they set up shop and refused to leave until the air conditioner forced them out. It was time for some fresh air, for mama and babies! Mornings at the park, afternoons running around the yard, evenings watching the sun set, those things just really float our boat around here, and we are SO glad to have them back in our life.
In celebration of Spring’s arrival, I wanted to share a couple of our favorite items that just go with sunshine like peanut butter with jelly. Make that almond butter. (I’m still Whole30’ing over here guys).
Since Hattie’s first pair of Freshly Picked moccasins arrived in the mail over a year ago, we knew we were smitten kittens. The thick quality leather, and ease of sliding on and off of her ever-moving feet was why I initially knew I was going to be in for a treat, but the fact that she gravitates towards them time and time again lets me know that they are a comfortable addition to her wardrobe. She literally rips every shoe and sock off that we dress her in, which can be quite the battle for she and I, but she always leaves her moccs on! Hattie’s need for tactile sensory is one reason why I think these shoes are a fantastic fit for us (literally!). She needs and wants to feel the soles of her feet conforming to the world around her; to the bar on the slide steps, or over rocks, in soft grass, over concrete, across slatted playground equipment, and through our pasture chasing chickens and butterflies yet as her mama, I can’t let her spend her days barefoot across every surface we encounter, so, our happy medium? These fantastic moccasins! We get these babies dirty during our daily adventures around our farm, or through our town, but they clean up like a dream, and even when we get caught in the funnest drizzle of raindrops, I worry not, because they dry back up perfectly, like Ben’s favorite pair of cowboy boots.
I know, I know, 60 flipping dollars for kids shoes? But for me, they are a special treat that I buy my kids only a couple times a year. I’ve gone through shoe after shoe with Hattie ($15-$20/pair) that she won’t keep on her feet, or that break from the cheap construction and poor quality control, so to buy this one pair that will hold up, stay on, and make both she and I happy instead of multiple, cheaper pairs pays off for me in the long run. I also LOVE the keepsake that they make for me when they are outgrown, since the outline of her tiny little foot and each perfect toe is embedded as a darkened image on the soles. I can imagine years from now pulling them out and shedding tears over the reality of the tiny bodies that my children grew from. I’ve seen cheaper versions of these moccasins, but the leather is either not real, or is super thin and neither of those characteristics work for us and the hell that a toddler puts their shoes through! Now that Todd Anthony is here, I am loving his crib moccs (made specifically for newborns), and their tiny-ness melts my heart every single time I pull them out. He will surely be growing up with moccs on his feet and adventure in his heart. I’m thinking he needs the weathered brown soon and very soon…

Another treat that we love to have with us on warm sunny days out is Honest Tea’s Honest Kids juice pouches (this company is not affiliated with The Honest Company in any way). I fell in love with their product as soon as I did a little digging and found that their juice contains only filtered water and organic concentrate from the specific fruits that comprise whatever flavor your little one enjoys (Super Fruit Punch, Appley Ever After, Berry Berry Good Lemonade, Goodness Grapeness, and Tropical Tango Punch). They come in little pouches with the insert-able straws that kids just fawn over. What I really loved about this company though, is that they are obviously GMO free and certified organic, but also, in 2013 they removed every bit of cane sugar from their kids drinks and decided to sweeten with only the natural fruit juices. I love a company that steps back to re-evaluate their quality measures, and makes changes when need be. This not only tells me that they have an eye for nutrition, but that they are constantly making advancements for the betterment of our children! Hattie drinks only water or milk around our house during the day, but on special occasions, like cook-outs, or trips to the park or zoo, I like to pack her a “special drink”, and I like even better for that special drink to be super healthy for my bouncing ball of curls. I’m so thrilled to have found such an amazing product that I feel comfortable putting in my babes belly.
