With summertime well on its way, I can hope that your daily activities have changed a bit since the frackling cold winter that the entire US seemed to have. I know that Hattie and I have traded in our morning warm baths for water hose and wading pool fun. And dog water bowl fun too, if I’m being honest. My mom of the year award is arriving this week in the mail, I’m sure of it.
I know that we all have our fav’ things to get us through each season, so I thought that in the spirit of sunshine and watermelon, I would share a few of mine with all of ya’ll.
Are you a freeze-a-holic? I am…I want to freeze everything. Hattie always steals my frozen things too, so I take it she’s joined the club. I had some round Popsicle molds that I had picked up at our local grocery a few years ago, but they were small, and round and awkward and I just wasn’t really fond of them. Then I bought some more last year but they broke the second time I used them. I finally ordered these this year because everyone knows that Amazon is where it’s at. Am I right? Slap a prime logo next to that bad boy and it’s a done deal for me. Hook, line, and one click check out. These molds are big enough to contain enough goodness so that Hattie is satisfied with her own and doesn’t have to steal mine, plus they’re designed to somehow avoid a whole lot of dripping, but it’s a Popsicle. In the summer. It’s going to drip at some point. The case is sturdy, and it’s a space saver, so it’s my fav’ Popsicle mold that I’ve owned thus far. These are pretty neat too. I haven’t tried them yet, but a juice pop would go perfectly in here.
I love dirt, but I don’t love ants, and those two seem to come hand in hand in south Louisiana, that’s why I’ve really been loving these gardening gloves that Honey (mother in law) bought me last Mother’s Day. They have my initials on the wrist, which is adorable, and makes me smile when I want to yell at the 100th weed that I pull. It makes tending my yearly veggie garden much more fun, since I won’t have to spend the remaining evening running alcohol over my hands to sooth my many ant bites. Plus they’re made out of like military grade canvas-I swear. I can’t think of anything that would tear them up, well, not anything that I’ll be growing in my garden at least. And for the love of everything good in life, if you want to buy these, use Ebates. 10% cash back instantly, in your pocket, for doing absolutely nothing.
Last year Hattie’s booty wasn’t big enough for the disposable swim diapers, so I had to use a Charlie Banana washable one from Target. This year when I passed the swim diaper section at the store and saw that a pack of 24 diapers was $14.00 I just couldn’t justify the purchase. Now $14 isn’t a deal breaker, but when I can buy one diaper for less than that and use it over and over and over again, I’ll choose the later. I actually bought ours this year from The Honest Company, where I buy Hattie’s everyday diapers, but they sold out, which is a shame because the red one with polka dots that I snagged is adorable. We may or may not have used it as a swim suit already. I would keep 2 or 3 with you so that you can slip another one on after a poopy incident. If that sentence made you gag, you should probably just stick to the disposable ones.
A lot of my blogger buddies have been sporting these bar necklaces lately, so I ordered one from the shop that I found to be everyone’s favorite for Honey’s birthday gift. You can have anything you want stamped onto it, and you can order it in gold, silver, and flat, or hammered metal. It’s the perfect length to wear with your swimsuit or summer blouses, and the choices for what to have it say are endless. You can use your kiddos initials, your nickname, a favorite word, or anything that you can dream up. Honey’s says “Honey”…so original, I know. One of my favorite things to have stamped is GPS coordinates. I’ve done a lot of gifts with this sentiment, like a keychain for Ben with our honeymoon cottage’s coordinates, and a keychain for a friend who left home for the first time to earn her Master’s degree many many miles away using her childhood house’s coordinates. Everyone has a special place in their life, so it’s a sweet idea usually. You can find GPS coordinates using lots of websites, and even Google Earth.
These tables are the cutest, super durable, and fold up flat for storage. My mom has one by the pool at her house, but it’s in dark gray instead of white. I’m running to Sam’s this week to grab one for our shop, fingers crossed they haven’t sold out! On Amazon, they sell for about $116, but they are around $49 at your local Sam’s club, only in store, not online. They clean up well after sticky messes too, and are perfect for outdoor snacking and dining. They are definitely the kind of Sam’s Club steal that your friends will be asking, “Where in the world did you get this?!” two summers from now.
We hope you are all enjoying your warm lazy days, we are for sure. Stay tuned for some recipes to put in those Popsicle molds, and to learn how to make your own dirty diet coke.
Now go turn on Beachin’ by Jake Owen and relax. You’ve earned it. At least that’s what I tell myself when I feel guilty for laying around the pool for the fifth day in a row. Mind over matter, right? Plus, i’m doing it for the toddler….
