Breastfeeding is a mother’s gift to herself, her baby and the earth. Pamela K. Wiggins
Our last broadcast for my Motherhood Made Beautiful series, and one that is so close to my heart! The intimate and beautiful art of breastfeeding: sustaining your baby nutritionally as they learn how to thrive in this crazy world. With so many variables and schedules dictating life and putting barriers between women and their ability to successfully carry out this natural gift, it has indeed become a blessing and one of which we should be so grateful to have been given the ability and time freedom with which to succeed.
If you missed the broadcast, you can tune in to the recording on Periscope (@joleighblonde), or on my Facebook page.
We started off discussing a little science (my favorite) about how breastmilk is literally a “perfect” food for your baby. It not only contains the fat and nutrients to help baby grow and develop, but is also a powerhouse of immune support in the form of immunoglobulins, namely IgA that protects baby against common pathogens (think broad range) we well as pathogens specific to your environment and things you both encounter. It is brilliant, adapting to the requirements of your baby, and even helping with those organisms that can intelligently evolve and damage.
How can you as mom best support your body in order to beautifully continue to heal while also giving so much to your babe? I recommend a nourishing diet, hydrating to thirst, and using high quality nutritional supplements to help with your own stores and vitality. All of my supplements are from doTERRA, and I’ll be happy to help you get your own or understand their purity and potency if you contact me here.
I urge you to keep yourself hydrated not only for your milk production, but also for your own healing, cleansing, and livelihood. Water is so very important! I love having a favorite cup near me at all times. I also like throwing in some magnesium powder once a day for some emotional/physical powerhouse support. Find these things and more in my breastfeeding Amazon store!
No matter how much preparationyou do, you’re bound to face some discomfort or a small issue at some point in your nursing relationship (just being honest!). Chances are, it’s totally survivable, totally temporary, and you are totally able to work past it! I read a quote a while back that said “Breastfeeding is 90% determination and 10% milk supply”. It’s a daily choice, and we can choose to persevere (in most instances). My favorite pre-made nipple cream is linked in my breastfeeding Amazon store and my favorite simple oil suggestions and recipes for various issues can be found below!
I also created a simple reference put out by the CDC for proper handling and storage of human milk!
You can download a high resolution printable of all of these recipes here!
I love printing these straight onto Avery postcard templates for easy perforated separation! You can find those in my Amazon Store too 🙂
